Wow! Students raised $1,550 for the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation! We are very proud of our Awesome Acadians! Last minute donations are still welcome here.

Because we reached our fundraising goals, the top two fundraisers, Hannah and Alice, got to throw a pie in Mrs. Bartel and Mrs. Hatch’s face! They did a great job and really brought a spirit of joy and laughter to the entire fundraising event. Mrs. Bartel and Mrs. Hatch, good sports that they are, took the pie-throwing surprise with grace and good humor. You can watch the pie-throwing here.

Gymnastics - Physical Education Classes

Starting on March 4, students will begin the gymnastics unit in our regularly scheduled physical education classes. For the first week, students will be working on mats and reviewing safety procedures. During the second and third weeks, students will be working with other gymnastic equipment which may include the Canadian Climber. This will ensure a progression of skills from mat work to gymnastic equipment culminating in a Mission Impossible course.

Students in elementary school are not expected to change for gym. When participating in gymnastics we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask the following be considered:

  • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best).
  • Loose fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing.
  • Tucking shirts in may help to prevent an accident.
  • All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms) or left at home (watches, rings, necklaces, etc.).
  • Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. Tying hair back with elastics or hair bands is recommended.
  • Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish.
  • Students continue to wear indoor running shoes or may also participate in bare feet.

Also, for the safety of all:

  • Students do what they are comfortable doing, no showing off or daring is allowed.
  • Students work independently or in small groups quietly as noise can distract others and may cause falls.
  • Pyramid building is not allowed by the Calgary Board of Education for students in elementary schools.
  • Some students may have had private gymnastics training however there will be no aerial stunts such as dive rolls, aerial somersaults or flips, head springs or hand springs as these activities do not fit into the gymnastics curriculum.

Please review these expectations with your children at home. Thank you in advance for your understanding in helping to ensure the safety of students.

Parking

Recently, the school received a telephone call from one of our neighbors who has a garage that backs on to the alley by the staff parking lot. Families have been parking alongside our neighbors' driveways so that they are unable to exit their garages. Parents, please be respectful of our neighbors and ensure that when you are parking your vehicles you aren't blocking garages, driveways or the bus parking zone.

School Development Plan

On Monday, March 4 until Monday, March 18, Parents can provide their input into Acadia School’s School Development Plan and Budget through a survey. The survey goes live at midnight March 4 and will close at midnight on March 18. Parents can access the survey through this link.

But please know that it will not be active until Monday, March 4. We will send out another reminder email on Monday.

Once again, the weather is cold! It's important to make sure your child is prepared for changing weather conditions. Please ensure they have warm clothes like jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves. Encourage them to dress in layers for changing temperatures. Your help in preparing for the colder days is appreciated. Please have your child check the lost and found for missing hats, gloves and coats left behind from last week’s warmer days.
